About the role
As a Robotics Deployment & Experimentation Intern at Origin, you will design and execute experimental protocols integrating mechanical systems, embedded hardware, ROS-based control software, and computer vision. Working in a fast-paced startup environment, you will gain hands-on, full-stack robotics experience while contributing directly to the development of AI-powered construction robots.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of experimental protocols for testing and validation of robotic systems, focusing on integrations across mechanical designs, embedded systems, ROS-based control software, and optionally computer vision.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to design, build, and maintain test setups for conducting experiments, including physical and simulated environments.
- Execute experiments in collaboration with the product team, meticulously collecting data, making observations, and documenting results.
- Analyze experimental data to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement in product design, functionality and operational efficiency.
- Offer suggestions and insights from an engineering and operational perspective to enhance robot performance and reliability.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and analyses in technical reports
- Actively participate in data analysis and design of experiments to ensure rigorous and statistically sound testing methodologies.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic record with a demonstrated interest in robotics and its practical applications.
- Hands-on experience with robotics projects, demonstrating an ability to work across different engineering disciplines.
- Familiarity with embedded systems programming using platforms like Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
- A strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for learning and contributing to a fast-paced team environment.
- A current/recently declared undergrad/grad in Mechanical Eng, Electrical Eng, CS.
- Mechatronics, or any discipline with strong robotics project work, Robot Operating System (ROS), Embedded Systems. Robotics. Customer engagement. Cross-functional communication.
- Comfortable with hand tools & basic fabrication, able to lift
-23 kg (50 lb). - Comfortable standing for long hours on-site in a heavy construction environment
- Familiar with at least one: ROS/ROS2, Python, C++, or embedded
C. - Eligible to work in the US for the internship period (CPT/OPT welcome)
- A clear communicator who thrives in messy, fast moving environments.
- Experience with vision or SLAM on mobile robots.
- Knowledge of construction workflows (drywall, painting, MEP).
- Basic understanding of Design of Experiments (DOE) is a plus.
