At Parsons, our Bridge teams provide design, rehabilitation, construction, condition inspection, construction inspection, and bridge architecture services for all bridge types and for all methods of project delivery across the country! We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in New York, NY, specializing in the design, analysis, inspection, and construction of heavy movable structures. These structures could include operating systems and hydraulics for movable bridges, lifts, drive machinery, pressurized piping systems, rail and guide systems, among others. The successful candidate will be an experienced, licensed mechanical engineer looking to advance their career and possess the communication skills and experience to lead mechanical engineering design for rehabilitation and new movable bridge projects in New York and across the US and Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction on movable bridge projects.
  • Ensure consistency in project quality.
  • Follow direction from senior staff and direct the work of junior staff.
  • Ensure that work is completed within budgetary constraints and expectations; implement and administer appropriate project monitoring and control mechanisms.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and productive relationships with all employees, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Commit to quality and continuous improvement through innovation and creative thinking.
  • Develop and review plans, calculations, technical specifications, contract documents, and engineer's estimates.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of related mechanical design/analysis experience on similar systems and components as listed above.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Experience leading projects and staff on bridge projects preferred.
  • Technical experience in the area of movable bridge design and rehabilitation is a must.
  • Peripheral knowledge of adjacent disciplines (electrical and structural).
  • Familiarity with AASHTO or AREMA movable bridge specifications.
  • Technical experience with pressurized piping systems, power piping for hydraulics, or standpipes preferred.
  • Experience working with NYCDOT, NYSDOT, and/or NJT preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Solid Works, or Autodesk Inventor is a must.
  • Design-build experience is a plus.
