Design Manager - Rail/Transit

Jacobs is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Design Manager to lead transportation infrastructure projects throughout New York.
As a vital member of our Rail/Transit team as a Design Manager, you'll have the opportunity to work on exciting and engaging large-scale infrastructure projects and utilize your design expertise to serve as a design manager, leading a large team of engineers and oversee scheduling, coordination and technical work on transportation related projects ensure we're delivering to the highest standard in the industry.
You'll lead in the creation of construction package developments, work with multiple disciplined teams on projects that are full life cycle of concept through completion. We'll look to you to provide technical guidance to less experienced engineering professionals, mentor younger staff, and you'll have the opportunity to directly engage with our clients. Also, we'll look to you to solve complex problems, take a broad perspective to identify different solutions, as well as guide others in solving complex issues in specialized areas based on existing solutions and procedures.
When you join us as a Rail/Transit Design Manager, you'll be responsible for the following:
- Demonstrating extensive expertise and serving as an expert on rail/transit projects;
- Solving complex problems and taking a broad perspective to identify innovative solutions;
- Working independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations
- Overseeing the design for traditional Design-Bid-Build and well as delivery of Design-Build and other alternative delivery transportation projects;
- Effectively maintaining diverse relationships with the Owner Representatives, Contractor, and any number of project stakeholders and influencers;
- Leading functional teams or projects and ensuring adherence to design standards, project schedules, contract requirements, and quality control measures;
- Cultivating an inclusive, collaborative team culture and mentor emerging professionals.
Here's what you'll need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering;
- Substantial years of progressive experience managing design for rail/transit projects;
- Experience working with Northeast Transportation Agencies MTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NJTRANSIT, NJDOT, NJTPA, etc.;
- Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills;
- Previous leadership experience and comfortable mentoring junior and mid-level staff;
- Previous experience in a client facing role and the ability to serve as a liaison between Jacobs and the client;
- Strong user of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project desired);
- Strong business acumen and conflict resolution skills;
- Strong understanding of project management concepts including planning and budgeting, fee development, writing scopes of work, creating work breakdown structures and project delivery schedules for design and related services
Ideally, you'll also have:
- Design-Build management experience;
- Experience in Progressive Design/Build, Design/Build, CMAR or P3 projects;
- Working experience with contractors

The base salary range for this position is $ to $. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
