Geotechnical Engineer

The Geotechnical Engineer will perform field oversight of geotechnical drilling and soil borings, support environmental and geotechnical investigations, and prepare clear technical documentation for a variety of infrastructure, transportation, and environmental projects throughout New York City and the five boroughs. This role combines hands-on field work with data analysis and reporting, offering strong exposure to both geotechnical and environmental disciplines and the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and geologists.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field oversight of geotechnical drilling operations and soil borings to ensure work complies with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Log soil and rock samples accurately in accordance with project requirements and recognized geotechnical standards.
  • Coordinate drilling subcontractors and field activities, ensuring efficient scheduling and smooth execution of field operations.
  • Conduct environmental sampling, including soil, groundwater, sediment, and waste characterization samples, following appropriate procedures and protocols.
  • Monitor and document field investigations and site conditions, capturing detailed observations and measurements.
  • Assist with installing and sampling monitoring wells as part of environmental and geotechnical investigations.
  • Collect, analyze, and organize field data for use in geotechnical evaluations, environmental site assessments, and project reports.
  • Prepare field reports, boring logs, and technical documentation that clearly present methods, findings, and recommendations.
  • Support environmental site investigations, remediation projects, and geotechnical evaluations across a range of private and city projects.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, project specifications, and applicable regulatory standards during all field and reporting activities.
  • Communicate regularly with project managers, field staff, contractors, and clients regarding project progress, findings, and any field issues.
  • Travel to project sites throughout New York City and the five boroughs to perform field work and attend project-related activities.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain this certification.
  • On track to obtain Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

Work Environment

This role is primarily field-focused, with regular travel to project sites across New York City and the five boroughs to support private and city projects. You will work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction or investigation sites, performing drilling oversight, soil borings, and environmental sampling. The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, geologists, field technicians, and contractors, and requires adherence to health and safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Office-based work includes organizing field data, preparing technical reports and boring logs, and using tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $75000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
