Associate Planning Engineer
The Associate Planning Engineer supports Con Edisons Transmission Planning team in advancing New York States clean energy goals. This role focuses on integrating renewable resources such as offshore wind, solar, and energy storage into the bulk electric system. The engineer will perform technical studies, assist in developing system upgrades, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure reliable and efficient transmission operations.
This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.
Core Responsibilities- Contribute to incorporating New York State clean energy requirements into Con Edisons Transmission Master Plan.
- Support short and long-term bulk electric system studies for renewable integration, including offshore wind, solar, and energy storage.
- Conduct thermal, voltage, short-circuit, and stability analyses to maintain system reliability.
- Assist in designing and planning transmission system modifications to accommodate new technologies.
- Analyze reliability benefits of proposed projects and provide technical input.
- Participate in interconnection studies for company-owned projects.
- Collaborate with NYISO and other stakeholders to substantiate local and bulk transmission planning efforts.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, including NERC guidelines.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Power Engineering and Two years of relevant work experience, including one year of engineering work experience related to the planning, design, or operation of the bulk electric transmission system.
- Exposure to the design and /or operation of the electric power system, required.
- Capability of using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs, required.
- Driver's License Required
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
