About the Job

The University Eye Center (UEC) of the State University of New York College of Optometry, an Article 28 Diagnostic and Treatment Center, is seeking talented and enthusiastic individuals to engage with our patients and providers. As a Clinical Support Nurse, you will work collaboratively with others to improve efficiency in communication between our providers and patients, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities/Job Functions:
  • Serves as the point person/liaison for providers between outside healthcare providers, pharmacies, and insurances when they call or send correspondence that requires immediate action. Including being detail oriented when receiving/entering refills for medications, receiving/entering prior authorization for providers, review of results or correspondence received from other healthcare providers with our eye care providers and assists with scheduling any follow-up care necessary.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, as per protocol.
  • Perform optometric imaging. Training will be provided.
  • Serves as the point of contact/liaison between providers and patients when patients have questions about their care, additional testing and/or medications.
  • Performs all sterilization of supplies and tools used by providers.
  • Assists in coordinating care for patients when urgent referrals to outside healthcare providers is indicated.
  • Maintains inventory of all handheld medical tools/supplies.
  • Performs weekly inspections of all medications utilized to ensure that all diagnostic and therapeutic agents are in supply and not expired.
  • Assists with vital sign measurement.
  • Assists with patient intake, entrance testing and other patient support activities, as directed.
  • Serve as one of the College's Basic Life Support (BLS) instructors to assist in certifying students and providers. (BLS Instructor Training will be provided).
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current NY State LPN license in good standing.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN program.
  • A minimum of one year experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience with prior authorizations and medication renewals.
  • Detail-oriented, organized professional with strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting.
  • Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT coding.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Prior experience with Electronic Health Records ( e.g., Next Gen).
Annual salary including location pay allowance is $ 65,000 and there is also a generous benefit package. Fifteen days of annual leave per year and thirteen paid holidays per year.
