Position Summary

The Director of Women's Imaging is an experienced professional who leads and coordinates the operational and administrative functions of Mammography and Dexa services. In this role, the incumbent will lead a collaborative team of technologists by directing staff activities and overseeing quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving mammography and bone density studies as requested by referring physician and consistent with the facility's guidelines, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in imaging area.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Duties

    • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff in a courteous, helpful, professional, and ethical manner.
    • Perform mammography and bone density studies and general radiological procedures according to practice standards:
      • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist's discretion, the referring physician.
      • Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging based on accepted mammography standard of practice and institutional imaging protocols.
      • Observe patient while in the mammography area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
      • Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
      • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
      • Assist radiologist with stereotactic core biopsies, setting up patient, ensuring all documentation pre- and post-procedure is complete.
    • Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
    • Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
    • Take initiative to resolve patient safety and patient experience concerns within the scope of practice/training/education.
    • Create an environment of safety by utilizing practice standards.
    • Ensure the overall condition of the treatment room is clean and safe according to practice standards. Escalate any issues as appropriate. Ensure inventory and adequate supply of personal protective equipment and other hygiene products in the patient treatment area. Notify management when supplies are low and need restocking.
    • Other duties as assigned within professional scope of practice/training/education.
    • Provides clinical coverage as needed across NYC and Westchester sites.

    Administrative Duties

    • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA requirements at all times.
    • Keep current on all organizational, practice, and patient privacy policies (e.g., infection control, HIPAA), trainings and regulatory requirements. Maintain technical competency through continued education as required by accrediting and licensing bodies.
    • Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following all OSHA, EH&S, and public safety policies and guidelines.
    • Development and updating of mammography and Dexa protocols
    • Engage with quality team in review of mammography and Dexa cases
    • Collaborate with medical director, technologists and practice leadership on evaluation of upgrades to and/or purchases of new equipment
    • Manage inventory, ordering and supply needs for mammography and Dexa with cost efficiency in mind.
