Position Summary

The Ethics Team at the Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics (CPMG) at Columbia University's Department of Medicine is seeking a dynamic, energetic Project Manager to coordinate and implement NIH-funded, community-engaged studies that investigate ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) relating to translational genomic studies. This position will involve independent and supervised work.

Under the supervision of Dr. Maya Sabatello, the principal investigator, the Project Manager will provide support for all aspects of the projects, such as conducting literature review, qualitative and quantitative data collection, data analyses, and assistance with professional presentations and manuscript preparation. Additionally, the Project Manager is expected to conduct significant logistical work, such as scheduling, correspondence, budgetary work, managing study team personnel, submission and maintenance of IRB approvals, and organization of multi-partner meetings.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in conducting empirical research, familiarity with ELSI research, and a background in public health, disability studies, and/or social sciences scholarship. For more information about the CPMG, see: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

Responsibilities

  • Overall project management of a multi-site, multi-disciplinary study.
  • Support the implementation of project goals and the timeliness of work completion.
  • Manage qualitative and quantitative data collection across sites, including recruitment, research software, data cleaning, analyses, and manuscript preparation.
  • Manage grant administrative responsibilities, such as progress reports.
  • Develop and maintain IRB protocols and coordination across institutional sites.
  • Manage budgetary issues, such as reimbursement and travel.
  • Assist with hiring and managing research personnel, including students and research assistants.
  • Communicate effectively with research partners, including scientific and community experts.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training, and experience, plus four years of related experience
  • Master's degree would substitute in part for experience
  • Attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in bioethics, public health, disability studies, or other social sciences research, and familiarity with ELSI research.
  • At least 4 years of experience conducting quantitative and qualitative data collection, analyses, and dissemination, as well as project management experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and professionalism.
  • Record of developing presentations and writing peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Experience with NIH grant-funded research.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Familiarity with disability studies.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work well independently, complete assignments in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines.
  • Experience supervising research staff.
  • Comfortable with research technologies and online platforms for research.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
