The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Dumitriu Laboratory (DOOR) at Columbia University Medical Center is looking for a highly motivated Short Term Casual (non-student) to support the scientific research projects of the team. The laboratory investigates the neurobiological basis of resilience in a rodent model of depression. The laboratory research activities are focused on revealing the functional and structural connectivity patterns that differ in stress-susceptible versus stress-resilient.

The candidate will be responsible for carrying out experimental procedures and working with senior lab members to conduct immunohistochemical experiments on brain tissue. He/She will also assist with the following image and data analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Work with team members to develop and optimize new lab assays
  • Carry out requested sample processing and assays
  • Follow up on experiments by organizing, processing, and reporting the results to the direct supervisor
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or Equivalency required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related subject. Previous experience in a Neuroscience lab and with rodent tissue in a lab environment highly recommended.
  • The ideal candidate must possess a positive and collaborative attitude as well as the ability to work independently and adapt to a diverse and dynamic team environment. Strong organizational skills, problem solving attitude and critical thinking is expected.

Other Requirements:

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of pre-offer and post-offer background checks in accordance with NYC's Fair Chance Act. Depending on the position, a drug screening and other verifications may be required. (University Policies)
