About Found

The self-employed workforce is a rapidly growing, resilient, and colorful 60 million Americans. But self-employment comes with its own set of challenges: navigating taxes, accounting, bookkeeping, and business banking are just a few. That’s where we come in.

Found is building tools that give self-employed people the security and peace of mind that has historically only been possible at big corporations. We’re a business bank account that automates taxes and expense tracking because we believe small business owners should spend more time doing what they love and less time on their business finances.

We’re looking for kind, resourceful, and passionate people to join us in building the safety net for self‑employment.

About this role:

Our Data team is a full stack data organization of highly skilled data scientists, data engineers, and machine learning engineers. We’re responsible for everything from researching, training, and deploying ML models to detect and stop fraud in real time, to using data to inform the direction that our product teams should take and what to build next.

We’re a small but experienced team that has worked on diverse and complex problems at companies like Uber, Block (f.k.a. Square), and Spotify. We’re excited to bring on a Data Engineer to help scale our data infrastructure, optimize our data pipelines, establish data governance, and support decision‑making across the organization. You’ll play a critical role in building out and scaling our ML and data platforms and will empower data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to better leverage our data to drive our business forward.

Some recent team accomplishments include:

  • Deploying a new feature store that improved time to train and deploy machine learning models by ~50%.

  • Optimizing our batch and streaming jobs to improve reporting latencies from a matter of days to a matter of hours.

  • Training and deploying several models that monitor financial transactions in real time to make decisions on whether or not they should be allowed through or not.

  • Establishing and enforcing governance to ensure clear ownership and SLAs for data warehouse ETLs and assets.

Day to day, you will:

  • Design, build, and operate large scale data infrastructure systems across multiple environments to store, aggregate, and progress large amounts of data.

  • Build a data platform‑as‑a‑service for internal customers, ensuring data integrity, sanity, tagging, and discoverability.

  • Bridge the gap between engineering and analytics, helping inform the roadmap for data infrastructure for the company.

  • Implement various ETL infrastructures for the company’s topline metrics, reporting, and product functionality.

  • Establish standards and practices ensuring that the data warehouse is maintained to a high standard.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • 5+ years experience in data infrastructure, data engineering, or analytics engineering roles.

  • Experience with relational databases (Postgres/MySQL), dbt, and Airflow

  • Advocated for and rolled out new technologies or open‑source frameworks that empower data and product organizations to make data driven decisions.

  • Experience working with cloud‑native big data infrastructure on the public cloud (We use Big Query and Vertex on GCP).

  • Ability to design effective data models for data warehouse storage for use in analytics and training machine learning models.

  • Experience with steering the maintenance of a data warehouse with contributors from multiple teams. We use DBT and Data hub for metadata, with Airflow for scheduling.

  • An eye for the future, setting us up for success both now and in the long term.

  • Strong ability to prioritize autonomously, knowing when to invest and when to say no.

You may also have:

  • Previous experience working in the fintech space.

  • Previous startup experience.

  • Experience with bookkeeping or taxes and how it relates to self‑employment.

  • Experience with feature stores powering ML models (we use Chalk).
