IT Engineer (Networking Focus)
Job Title: IT Engineer (Networking)
Location: Manhattan, NY (on-site) with regular local travel
Compensation: $65,000 – $70,000 (based on experience)
Hours: Full-Time — ~35 hours/week
Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm
A New York–based organization is seeking a hands-on IT Engineer with strong networking experience to support and stabilize infrastructure across multiple local sites. This position handles real-time troubleshooting, switching and wireless support, and backend work with systems such as Ubiquiti, Cisco, and HP. The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys solving complex, real-world networking challenges.
What You’ll Do- Diagnose and resolve network outages (switches, access points, cabling, firewalls)
- Install and manage access points and wireless equipment across diverse buildings
- Perform backend administration in Ubiquiti/Cisco/HP platforms
- Determine when to escalate to an MSP and provide context for quicker issue resolution
- Conduct site visits across multiple boroughs for hands-on triage and stabilization
- Maintain documentation, inventory, diagrams, and configuration notes
- Participate in network upgrades, segmentation efforts, equipment replacements, and other improvement projects
- 3–4+ years of networking experience
- Hands-on skills with Ubiquiti, Cisco, or HP switching and wireless
- Strong understanding of cabling, AP placement, and multi-site support
- Ability to communicate clearly and document work thoroughly
- Comfort traveling across NYC sites and working onsite daily
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with technical teams
- Experience with multi-location environments (schools, distributed offices, or similar)
- Exposure to MDM platforms (Intune, ABM)
- Familiarity with ISP/vendor coordination
- Experience supporting both managed and unmanaged networks
- High-impact work stabilizing essential infrastructure
- Autonomy and hands-on engineering, not just ticket routing
