Duties
Help
If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team responsible for the supervision and coordination of the paralegal staff in the Civil Division for the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) for the Southern District of New York (SDNY). Typical work assignments will include:
- Providing administrative and technical information and guidance to resolve work issues.
- Assessing employee skills and identifying development and training needs.
- Interviewing candidates and recommending appointment, promotion, or reassignment to positions.
- Instructing staff regarding applicable policies, procedures, and documents.
- Monitoring and evaluating employee performance to promote staff effectiveness (i.e. improve production; increase quality of work).
- Serving as the SDNY's Legal Resource Manager (LRM) and Compute Assisted Legal Resources (CALR) POC.
- Performing and updating topical, in-depth legal research using automated tools and traditional resources.

- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.
- Time-in-Grade:
Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement. - You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
To be qualified at the GS-12 level, you must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least work at the GS-11 level in Federal service, which has equipped you with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as experience independently performing and leading others in a variety of analytical paralegal or legal work, which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Examples of specialized experience may include the following: analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence; conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions; mentoring and/or leading assistant- and specialist-level staff in the completion of legal work; and providing administrative and technical information and guidance to resolve work issues.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
