Based in New York, the Litigation Docket Clerk will be responsible for the various daily activities in a Managing Attorney's Office, including the filing, service and retrieval of court documents; maintaining and updating all related databases; processing incoming court documents, checking dockets for updates, docketing/calendaring and running reports; communicating with court personnel and attorneys regarding proper filing procedures.
This role reports to the Managing Attorney - NY.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing support to litigation attorneys, including calculating deadlines, retrieval of documents and service of process.
- Performing electronic court filings for state and federal district and appellate courts.
- Screening and reviewing incoming and outgoing court documents and ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Reviewing court filings and entering calendar deadlines in centralized docketing software (Court Alert).
- Tracking critical dates and related details and communicating information to attorneys, paralegals and/or staff, as necessary.
- Searching cases using software and internet resources as necessary.
- Coordinating and following up with outside vendors for process serving, document retrieval, transcriptions, reporting, and related court communications.
- Assisting with other administrative projects or provide other general back-up support as necessary.
- An understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures and familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Experience working in a large law firm highly desired.
- Minimum of (2) years of prior experience in litigation docketing desired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. Court Alert, Compu Law, MA3000, et al.) desirable.
- Experience with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. NYSCEF, Nex Gen, PACER, et al.).
- Strong research ability and knowledge of court rules and procedures in New York state and federal courts.
- Experience with firmwide calendaring preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $85-100K. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
