Assists in performing skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment; performs related duties as required.
Complexity of DutiesUnder direct supervision, the duties require the use of mechanical skills and judgment in automotive repair, and the work is reviewed for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
Typical Duties- Assists in performing skilled repair work on gasoline and diesel powered automobiles, trucks, sweepers, bulldozers, loaders, tractors, and other motor driven equipment.
- Assists in repairing and overhauling transmissions, valves, clutches, brakes, generators, and ignition systems.
- Performs minor body repairs.
- Performs tune‑ups of equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Performs emergency road repairs.
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, and equipment used in automotive repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of principles of operation and maintenance of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in repairing and adjusting automotive equipment.
- Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair defects and malfunctions in automotive equipment.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
- A. One year of satisfactory experience assisting a skilled mechanic in the repair of automobiles, trucks, or other heavy automotive equipment;
- B. Two years of satisfactory experience as an automotive servicer in the employing village;
- A. Two years of satisfactory experience as described in 1.A) above;
- B. Three years of satisfactory experience as described in 1.B) above.
Continuing possession of an appropriate class, valid Driver's License issued by the State of New York.
