Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, Teaching & Learning Innovations, the Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of all campus libraries and learning commons. The Manager supervises library support staff and Success Centre teams across campuses, ensuring consistent front-line service delivery across campuses, including oversight of circulation and borrower services and academic learner support services. The Manager works with the Associate Dean to resolve complex operational issues as they arise, such as staffing and patron concerns, and implements effective long-term solutions.

The Manager supervises and assists with coordinating staffing resources to ensure appropriate coverage and scheduling, including evenings and weekends.

The Manager works collaboratively with librarians, library staff, and campus administrators to establish and maintain operational procedures aligned with institutional and portfolio needs, priorities, policies, and procedures. In collaboration with librarians, the Manager is responsible for the operational oversight of Library and Learning Commons facilities on all campuses, including remote supervision and ensuring backup staff coverage. The Manager works with campus library staff and librarians to oversee campus library services that include circulation, borrowing, interlibrary loan, and technical services.

The Associate Dean and Librarians rely on the Manager to remain informed of emerging operational issues and trends, identify areas of concern, and provide informed advice related to operations.

The Manager fosters a collaborative, service-oriented, distributed team that supports the educational mission of Library and Learner Support Services, and the broader mission of the College. Working closely with librarians, academic departments, and student service areas, the Manager aligns service levels and standards to support student engagement and academic success, while maintaining a welcoming environment and informing frontline service delivery.

Functions and Duties

Operational Management:

* Oversees daily operations of Library and Learning Commons, and Success Centre services and spaces across four campuses, ensuring consistent, high-quality service aligned with College policies, academic calendars, and the direction of the Library Department and portfolio leadership.

* Works with campus library staff to develop, maintain, and share operational documentation, including procedures, workflows, and service standards, to support consistent service delivery and cross-campus alignment.

* Implements approved operational changes in collaboration with librarians and campus library staff, monitoring outcomes to identify efficiencies, risks, and campus-specific needs.

* In consultation with the Associate Dean, manages operational issues and service disruptions, including staffing challenges, patron concerns, emergencies, and space-related issues, ensuring service continuity and timely escalation when required.

* Implements and supports health and safety practices, emergency responses, and business continuity procedures for library and Success Centre operations, in alignment with college-wide plans and direction from portfolio leadership.

* Ensures operational compliance with collective agreements, College policies, operational guidelines, and financial control procedures.

Staff Supervision and Development:

* Supervises library and Success Centre support staff across campuses, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance feedback, discipline, and professional development, in conjunction with librarians and library staff across campuses, and within established frameworks.

* Assists with the recruitment, supervision, training, and management of student employees across campuses.

* Works with campus library staff to coordinate staffing coverage for campus libraries and Success Centre service points, including evenings and weekends, ensuring coverage meets service expectations, approved budgets, and collective agreement requirements.

* Communicates operational expectations and service commitments clearly to library and Success Centre staff, ensuring understanding and consistent delivery of services.

* Fosters a respectful and collaborative work environment that supports inclusive and ethical practices, staff development, and continuous improvement, and addresses or escalates concerns appropriately.

Planning, Analysis, and Reporting:

* Analyzes enrolment, service, and usage patterns to support operational planning and prepares recommendations for the Associate Dean, Dean, and librarians regarding short and long-term staffing needs.
