Position: Registered Nurse (RN)

Registered Nurse

The Onsite Nurse (RN) will provide on-site nursing services at MPG's Alternative Education Placement Program. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day health and medical needs of students on campus, including first aid for minor injuries, illness monitoring, and medication administration in accordance with applicable state regulations and school policy. The RN will collaborate closely with the clinical team, families, and outside medical providers to ensure continuity of care and student safety.

MPG's Alternative Education Placement Program (AEPP) is a full-day, alternative school-based program built around continuous 1:1 Applied Behavior Analysis for students who cannot make progress in traditional educational settings. Housed in a dedicated facility in Manhattan, our AEPP offers a structured, therapeutic learning environment with integrated special education and related services. Our AEPP serves students ages 5 to 21 with significant behavioral, regulatory, or learning challenges who require a level of individualized support that typical school placements cannot provide.

Nurse Responsibilities
  • Provide first aid and triage for minor injuries including cuts, bruises, and abrasions; determine when escalation to emergency services is required
  • Administer medications to students in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and school medication administration policies
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date health records for all students, including medication logs, incident reports, and daily health documentation
  • Communicate with parents, guardians, and clinical teams regarding student health concerns, incidents, and follow-up care as well as communication to related parties concerning return to school timelines
  • Follow all outlined handbook and documentation related to illness, seizure, and crisis related protocols
  • Collaborate with BCBAs, special educators, and related service providers to support students with medical needs that intersect with behavioral programming
  • Maintain and manage the on-site health office, including inventory, supplies, and emergency equipment
  • Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate with emergency services as needed; maintaining documentation as required
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state health, safety, and nursing regulations
  • Submit written documentation and reports within established timelines
  • Actively participate in staff training and professional development opportunities
  • Foster practice consistent with the organization's mission, vision, and values
Compensation & Benefits
  • Compensation: $65, annually; paid bi-weekly

Required Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
  • Experience working with children or adolescents, preferably in a school, pediatric, or special education setting
  • Experience with or knowledge of autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, or neurodivergent populations strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with medication administration protocols and New York State Department of Health school nursing regulations
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to document clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Flexible availability and ability to respond quickly to phone calls, text messages, and emails
  • Must remain up to date on all required trainings and certifications
  • Must successfully complete employee trainings as required by law
  • Must successfully complete ongoing in-house training and required professional development
