Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities. The RN is responsible for the prevention of illness and injury and the alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN advocates for the care of individuals and families. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development. This is in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, nursing division policies, and the Code of Ethics for Nurses.
The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care. The RN manages a group of patients, serving as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources. The RN utilizes a working knowledge of pharmacology and safely administers medications according to facility policies.
The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization. This includes staffing, time management, supplies, and services. The RN complies with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements. The RN actively participates in and supports the nursing shared governance model. This includes supporting the unit council and participating in improvement initiatives. The RN engages in professional development and continuing nursing education.
The RN integrates nursing research and current evidence into practice. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. The RN may perform duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. The RN may assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
