The ability to communicate with the team to ensure all equipment and supplies are available. Assists in facilitating room turnover and timely starts for patient care. Coordinates with the Charge Nurse and third-party vendors to ensure all team members will be available for scheduled procedures. Proficient in Epic for documentation during procedures. Description:
The RN functions primarily as the primary nurse or a circulator. In the primary nurse role, the RN is responsible for patient assessment, medication and safety review, clinical documentation, communication, and coordination of care before, during, and immediately following electrophysiology procedures. Prior to entering the procedure room, the RN will review the patient’s medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, IV access, procedural orders, and other pertinent clinical information.
The RN will identify patient-specific risks or needs and coordinate with the electrophysiologist, anesthesia team, and other members of the interdisciplinary team. During the procedure, the RN will maintain a patient-focused role, including ongoing assessment, medication administration within scope and order parameters, moderate sedation when applicable, and procedural documentation in the electronic health record system. The RN will work closely with anesthesia during anesthetized procedures and provide backup pacing support during cardiac implant procedures as required.
The RN will also function in the circulator role, including obtaining and opening sterile supplies, pulling equipment, assisting with room setup and turnover, maintaining appropriate fluids and supplies for ablation procedures, and ensuring necessary equipment is available throughout the case. The RN may assist at the sterile field with basic patient and equipment preparation and preparation of sterile tables. The RN is expected to communicate effectively with physicians and in-room staff and support timely room starts and turnover.
Coordination with the charge nurse, vendors, and other team members is essential to ensure safe and efficient procedural care. Typical procedures performed include PFA and RF ablations, device implants such as traditional pacemakers and ICDs, and laser and low-risk procedures. Cardiac implant or structural heart scrub experience is preferred but not required.
