A Cellular/Molecular Postdoc position is immediately available in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) in New York, NY. The Postdoc will join the Simoes' lab at the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) to study neurodegeneration and diseases of the central nervous system, with emphasis on Alzheimer's disease. The Taub Institute is a world-leader in research of neurodegenerative diseases and the nucleus of a dynamic, translational, multidisciplinary endeavor bringing together Columbia University researchers and clinicians to uncover the causes of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and other age-related brain diseases.
The selected candidate will participate in private and NIH-funded studies aimed at understanding the biology of these diseases, to define and develop novel biomarkers, and identify novel therapeutical targets. The project will involve working with different mouse models, primary and immortalized cell lines, and murine/human biofluids. This is a 1-year grant-funded position, with the opportunity of appointment extension. Previous experience in Alzheimer's disease or other neurological disorder research field is required.
Experience in cell biology, protein biochemistry, confocal microscopy and proteomics will be important skills used in this position. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in Neuroscience. Prior experience with bioinformatics in the biomedical research field, preferably with the processing and downstream analysis of "omics" data are encouraged to apply.
The candidate will plan, develop, and execute the experiments in line with the project requirements based on the funded research plan, and through active discussion with the PI. The Postdoc is expected to be creative and to show initiative. She or he will accurately document experimental procedures and results and contribute to the writing of reports, grant proposals, and papers. The postdoctoral scientist will have the opportunity to present at a national or international meeting.

Minimum requirements:
PhD Degree in Neuroscience or related field, with experience in neurobiology research. Prior experience with bioinformatics ("omics" analyses) is a must.
