The Opportunity

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Associate Research Scientists an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers. The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is the top in comparison with other pediatrics department in the NY region in NIH research funding.

The Associate Research Scientist's responsibilities will consist of working closely with members in the Pediatric Cardiology Heart Center Research Core, providing senior level biostatistical and analytic support for all projects. The candidate will collaborate with personnel with training and experience in biostatistical tasks and will take a mentorship and teaching role in guidance of junior statistician(s) and physicians in training who are interested in clinical research.

Scientific tasks include but are not limited to study design, data collection and analysis, and results interpretation. This person may need to assist physician researchers to manage the research consulting service. Also, this person will closely work with heart center investigators in NIH-funded research projects such as data analysis and manuscript preparation. In addition, this person is expected to conduct applied research in an area of considerable scope of complexity, plan independent research, data analysis and interpretation, and publish the results.

Moreover, this person is expected to design studies and develop grant proposals to seek extramural funds for independent studies. Furthermore, there will be opportunities to get involved in training clinicians/scholars/graduate students from CUIMC and other institutes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide epidemiological and statistical consulting service to support clinician's research.
  • Help manage the research consulting service.
  • Get involved in NIH funded research projects such as data analysis and manuscript preparation.
  • Conduct applied research in an area of considerable scope of complexity, plan independent research, data analysis and interpretation, and publish the results.
  • Design studies and develop grant proposal to seek extramural funds for independent studies
  • Training clinicians/scholars/graduate students from CUIMC and other institutions.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

  • PhD in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or relevant area
  • 3+ years of postdoctoral training required
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
