Position: Staff Associate I

Columbia University is a leader in biomedical research and is a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Columbia's Vagelos School of Physicians and Surgeons is amongst the top research universities and provides an outstanding intellectual environment. The Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center (HICCC) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center provides outstanding Biomedical Research Cores. The HICCC houses 12 core facilities or shared resources that provide services essential to basic and translational cancer research, to which the applicant will have continued full access on a 24/7 basis.

Functional Knowledge

  • Good methodology training and background in statistics/biostatistics, and scientific methods of analysis.

    - 30%

Problem-Solving

  • Implement statistical methods and analysis to solve problems based on project needs.

    - 20%

Decision-Making/Autonomy

  • The Staff Associate I will consult as the project biostatistician within guidelines on clinical research teams (with limited oversight from other senior statisticians) regarding experimental and clinical design, analysis, and sample analysis.

    -15%

Technical Expertise

  • Strong statistical package programming skills, in particular R and SAS, in support of their projects. Database and big data manipulation in SQL or Linux based systems.

    - 20%

Communication

  • Share results of analysis for investigators. Assist in the preparation of grant applications, conference abstracts, and manuscripts for publication purposes, as well as response to requests or questions by protocol or publication review boards.

    - 15%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a specific research field.

Other Requirements

  • Good methodology training in statistics/biostatistics and strong programming skills, in particular R and SAS, experience and skills with biomedical studies and clinical trial designs.
