The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a position of Staff Associate I (SAI) to begin January 1, 2026. The SAI will work with a team of graduate students and postdoctoral scientists performing projects using new mass spectrometry based proteomics approaches to identify key protein turnover events during aging. Under the supervision of the PI, the SAI's responsibilities include:
- development of new mass spectrometry based approaches to measure post- translational modifications from minute sample amounts
- measure consistently protein turnover rates for thousands of proteins
- establish cellular differentiation protocols and RNA-sequencing approaches within the laboratory
- ensure that milestones in projects are met
- troubleshoot equipment, data, information and software
- organize weekly, monthly and yearly meetings with the team to facilitate communication.
Specific Duties
- 50% Running research projects led by the PI and helping with projects of graduate students and postdoctoral scientists in the lab. In addition, the SAI is responsible for assuring that the team covers the milestones that are part of their projects. This requires a high degree of technical expertise, functional knowledge and decision making
- 30% Managing difficulties in research projects. Troubleshooting equipment, data, information and software, which requires strong problem solving skills
- 20% Communicating with entire team. Organizing and running a set of in person or remote weekly, monthly and yearly meetings among all participants.
