Position: Staff Associate I

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Staff Associate I is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science centers. The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is the top in comparison with other pediatrics department in the NY region in NIH research funding.

We are seeking an intellectually curious and experienced Staff Associate I to work on ongoing projects investigating the interactions of a variety of important bacterial pathogen and the lung. The successful candidate will have experience in basic molecular biology and immunology techniques. A solid foundation in basic biology and immunology is essential. In addition, facility with basic bioinformatic techniques and data analysis is important.

Participating in lab meetings is expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

  • Conducts research and experiments, manages data, operates equipment, pulls samples, as directed by Dr. Alice Prince, as well as.
  • Bacterial and host transcriptional analyses - qRT-PCR.
  • Immunoblots and Metabolomic studies.
  • 13C metabolic labeling studie and IPA analyses - (pathway studies).
  • Performing assays and preparing solutions according to detailed instructions.
  • Setting up equipment for experiments and carrying out fully planned experiments.
  • Ordering and maintaining lab supplies.
  • Coordinate processing of lab invoices and shipments.
  • Participate in lab meetings.
  • Perform other related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics and 4 years of experience.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions.
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff.
