Security Console Operator
The New Museum is seeking a highly professional and customer-focused Security Console Operator to support the safety, security, and daily operations of the museum. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for visitors, staff, collections, and property.
The Security Console Operator is responsible for monitoring security, fire, and life-safety systems; managing access control; coordinating emergency communications; documenting incidents; and supporting security operations through continuous surveillance and effective communication. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and exceptional customer service while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in both routine and emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor CCTV surveillance systems and respond promptly to suspicious activity, security concerns, and operational issues.
- Monitor fire alarm, life-safety, and other security systems and initiate appropriate response procedures when alarms occur.
- Manage routine and emergency communications through telephones, radios, intercom systems, and other communication platforms.
- Operate and monitor two-way communication systems in support of security personnel and emergency response operations.
- Execute emergency notification procedures in accordance with museum policies, post orders, and emergency response plans.
- Verify credentials and ensure only authorized individuals are granted access to restricted areas.
- Control, issue, and track keys, radios, and other security equipment in accordance with established procedures.
- Report missing, damaged, or malfunctioning equipment and systems.
- Serve as the primary communication link between Security and other museum departments to facilitate effective coordination and response.
- Escalate emergencies, critical incidents, complaints, unusual occurrences, and safety concerns to Security Supervisors and the Director of Security as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, including incident reports, deliveries, daily activity logs, pass-down reports, equipment logs, and investigative documentation.

Qualifications
- Required
- Valid New York State Security Guard License.
- Valid FDNY S-95 Certificate of Fitness.
- Valid FDNY F-03 Certificate of Fitness.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred
- Previous experience in a security operations center, console operator, dispatch, or front desk security role.
- Experience monitoring CCTV, access control, and life-safety systems.

- Ability to monitor multiple systems and screens for prolonged periods while maintaining attention to detail.
