Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Software Development Engineer, Ad Performance & Delivery

Software Development Engineer

Are you ready to build advertising technology at massive scale? Amazon Advertising's Demand Side Platform (DSP) processes billions of ad impressions daily, and our pacing and optimization systems sit at the heart of it, deciding in real time how budgets are spent, how bids are priced, and how campaigns hit their goals. Join our Bidding Strategies and Pacing team to build systems that optimize ad spend across large-scale distributed infrastructure.

As a Software Development Engineer, you'll work on systems undergoing a massive scale inflection. You'll build and operate distributed services, streaming data pipelines, and real-time control systems, learning how the pieces fit together to drive campaign performance for advertisers ranging from small businesses to large enterprises. You'll have ownership over your features end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.

Working alongside applied scientists, economists, product managers, and senior engineers, you'll build both the distributed infrastructure and the optimization algorithms that run on it, growing your expertise across systems engineering, real-time processing, and applied science.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Design and implement components of real-time systems that compute price signals, enforce budget caps, and distribute bidding instructions across a globally distributed fleet
  • Build and operate distributed services and streaming data pipelines that process tens of billions of events daily
  • Contribute to campaign performance optimization: pacing algorithms, budget allocation, and bid strategy enforcement
  • Own features end-to-end through the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and operations
  • Collaborate with applied scientists and economists to bring optimization algorithms from research to production
  • Participate in operational excellence: on-call rotations, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement of system reliability

A day in the life:

You'll work closely with applied scientists, economists, product managers, and senior engineers to build campaign optimization systems  any given day you might be implementing a new feature in a distributed service, writing integration tests for a streaming pipeline, pairing with a scientist to product ionize an algorithm, or investigating an operational issue. You'll get exposure to control theory, distributed systems, and applied science, with mentorship and room to grow.

About the team:

The Bidding Strategies and Pacing team is part of Amazon DSP, building the systems that pace and optimize campaign delivery. We determine how ads are bid on, how budgets are spent over time, and how campaigns meet their performance objectives, across the full spectrum of advertisers on the platform. Our systems operate at the intersection of control theory, distributed systems engineering, and applied science, and we're actively scaling them by orders of magnitude to support Amazon's next generation of advertising demand.

If you want to build systems that are real-time, distributed, and revenue-critical, this is the team.
