Software Engineer Opportunity

I have a long term contract opportunity for one of our leading financial services organizations in Midtown. This is 3 days onsite, 2 days remote. As a Software Engineer, you would need to have 3-4 years Java/Spring and Python, as well as backend SQL/Postgres or Oracle skills. In addition to developing AI-powered workflows, the team builds systems that enrich legal documents, particularly court opinions.

Examples of these enrichments include:

• Identifying and analyzing citations to cases, statutes, regulations, and other authorities
• Determining the treatment and context of cited authorities
• Measuring the strength and depth of a court's discussion of statutes and legal issues
• Identifying important facts, legal principles, holdings, and procedural information
• Producing structured metadata that improves search, retrieval, analytics, and downstream AI applications

The team develops services and applications using Java, Python, relational databases, distributed systems, and modern AI technologies. Our applications run within the company's production infrastructure and support reliable, scalable, and secure client-facing experiences.

• Design, develop, test, and maintain reliable software applications and services
• Integrate applications with search platforms, databases.
• Contribute to the design of scalable, fault-tolerant, and maintainable distributed systems
• Write clean, well-tested, and production-ready code
• Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions
• Investigate production issues and improve system monitoring, reliability, and performance
• Collaborate with engineers across different departments to reuse common platforms, services, and engineering standards

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience using Java and Spring
• At least 3 years of experience working with relational databases, including PostgreSQL or Oracle
• Experience writing SQL and designing or working with relational data models
• Experience building and supporting production software applications or services
• Understanding of software design principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming
• Experience developing APIs or integrating with service-based architectures
• Familiarity with automated testing, debugging, and production support
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• A Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, a related field, or equivalent professional experience

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools throughout the software development lifecycle, including design, coding, testing, code review, debugging, and documentation.
• Experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Experience developing Python-based data processing, machine learning, or AI applications
• Experience working with search engines, document retrieval systems, or content-processing pipelines
• Experience designing scalable, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems
• Experience building systems that process large volumes of structured or unstructured documents
