The Accountant's responsibilities include performing Accounts Payable, Sales/Accounts Receivable, weekly payment processing, daily cash collection applications, month end journal entry, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.
To be successful as an Accountant, you should have a good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and good financial analysis skills. A staff accountant should also possess strong Excel skills, be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little supervision and perform under pressure.
- Process accounts payables and weekly payment batches and recording sales and accounts receivable collections in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
- Review aging balances and communicate any collection issues with businesses.
- Perform recurring weekly and month end closing journal entries and reconciliations (including researching of the discrepancies and resolving them)
- Deposit checks and apply the balances
- Perform monthly freight expense accruals and analysis
- Record Fixed Assets acquisition and run depreciation calculations. Quarterly reconcile the balances between FA register and GL. Maintain FA register in accordance with the accounting standards
- Maintain leases and record lease accounting entries monthly.
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Assisting with annual audit preparations.
- Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance.
- Assisting, in some cases preparing, for preparation of federal, state, local, and special tax returns.
- Contributing to the development of new accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
- Coordinating accounting functions and programs with different departments.
- Preparing financial analyses and reports.
- Performing other accounting duties as required or assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
- 5+ years of accounting experience.
- Good understanding of Fixed Assets and CAPEX accounting background is a Plus
- Good understanding of GAAP.
- Strong reconciliation skills, and financial analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational and stress management skills.
- Strong sense of professionalism and accountability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
- Knowledge and experience with Netsuite or other ERP systems is a plus
