Job Summary
Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC), a subsidiary of Independence Pet Holdings, seeks a hybrid Senior Accountant to analyze large premium and claims data, book journal entries, and apply a strong understanding of GAAP and STAT. The role encompasses accounting responsibilities, analysis, and collaborative stakeholder engagement.
Main Responsibilities- Assist with Statutory Quarterly and Annual statement preparation, including critical exhibits such as Supplemental Accident and Health exhibits, Schedule F/S, Schedule H, Schedule P, and Schedule
F. - Collaborate with other departments to gather detailed data necessary for assigned statements.
- Support external and regulatory reviews, audits, and examinations as required.
- Contribute to various projects, analysis, and related duties to aid department management.
- Assist with completion of state filings and forms.
- Handle routine to complex corporate accounting reporting and analysis.
- Review and prepare journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP principles.
- Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP/STAT reporting and closing processes.
- Prepare financial statement work papers, reconciliations, and analysis to ensure accuracy and provide commentary on financial results.
- Substantiate reconciliations for bank accounts, claim funds, funds held, and other balance sheet and expense accounts.
- Mentor and support staff by providing guidance, reviewing work, and fostering professional development.
- Perform other job functions necessary for proper department management.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills and experience with general ledger software.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
