Job Summary

We are seeking a Non‑for‑Profit Audit Senior Associate to join our team in Jericho, NY or New York, NY. The role involves working closely with staff on all phases of project and engagement management for multiple clients. The primary responsibilities include planning and executing day‑to‑day audit activities, managing time constraints and client deadlines, and reviewing first‑level audit work by junior audit staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead audit engagements for not‑for‑profit organizations from planning through completion, including scoping, risk assessment, execution of audit procedures, and delivery of final reports.
  • Act as the primary client contact during engagements, building strong client relationships and addressing accounting and audit‑related inquiries specific to not‑for‑profit entities.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor staff and interns; review work for accuracy and quality; provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Review audit work papers and financial statements to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory and grantor requirements.
  • Evaluate internal controls and compliance with federal, state, and donor‑specific requirements, particularly for restricted funds, grants, and government funding.
  • Prepare and review audit documentation, including working papers, financial statement disclosures, and auditor reports tailored to not‑for‑profit clients.
  • Perform and review testing procedures for common NFP areas such as contributions and grants, program service expenses, functional expense allocation, and endowments.
  • Research and resolve technical accounting and compliance issues using authoritative literature and firm resources.
  • Collaborate with managers and partners to develop risk‑based audit strategies that address the structure and funding models of not‑for‑profit entities.
  • Support performance evaluations and contribute to staff development initiatives within the audit team.
  • Manage engagement timelines and budgets, ensuring high‑quality service delivery within established deadlines and resource constraints.
  • Work across multiple engagements concurrently, demonstrating strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ensure compliance with all professional standards, firm methodologies, and sector‑specific reporting requirements, including the Yellow Book and Uniform Guidance when applicable.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
    Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum 3‑5 years progressive audit experience; previous public accounting experience required.
  • Non‑for‑profit audit experience required.
  • CPA license preferred or actively pursuing certification.
  • Proven ability to supervise and lead staff in a collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to client sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, initiative, and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software such as Quick Books, Case Ware, Pro System fx Engagement, CCH, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism and demonstrates respect for others.
  • Ability to travel as needed for client engagements.
  • U.S. work authorization required; the firm does not sponsor or transfer work visas.
