Location: New York

SBH Health System is searching for a qualified Staff Accountant – General Accounting to join our Finance department. The Staff Accountant supports the Controller and Director of Finance in carrying out the responsibilities of the General Accounting Department. This position is responsible for maintaining the general ledger, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations, assisting with the monthly close process, and supporting financial reporting, budgeting, and audit activities.

Requirements

Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting
. 0–2 years of accounting experience required
, with healthcare or nonprofit experience preferred. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables and basic formulas, are required. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post standard monthly journal entries with supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Assist with maintaining balance sheet accounts, including prepaid expenses, accruals, and intercompany accounts.
  • Assist with maintaining the fixed asset ledger and tracking capital expenditures.
  • Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date account analyses.
  • Assist with variance analysis for operating revenues and expenses.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare audit work papers and supporting documentation for the annual GAAP audit.
  • Assist with the annual budget and forecast process.
  • Participate in special accounting projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
  • Assists with audits as required for the position.
  • Utilizes the Oracle accounting system for general accounting transactions.
  • Communicates effectively with the Controller, Director of Finance, and other departments regarding account reconciliations and financial information.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Works collaboratively as a member of the Finance team.
  • Displays strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor to promote a productive work environment.
  • Discloses protected health information in accordance with HIPAA standards.
  • Protects the organization's confidential information.
