Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

Overview

Whitecap Search is seeking a dynamic and experienced accounting and finance professional to join our high-growth Insurtech platform. As the first in-house Accounting & Finance hire, you will play a crucial role in scaling the business forward by owning core accounting functions and partnering with leadership on financial planning.

• Own all core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
• Design and implement scalable accounting systems, controls, and policies.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulations.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and board materials.
• Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning (FP&A).
• Manage audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and advisors.
• Oversee cash flow management and optimize working capital.
• Partner with Claims on various initiatives, tracking claims payments and recoveries, and maintaining accurate records of claims and commissions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficiency with Quick Books.
• Experience with Excess & Surplus (E&S) Insurance Brokerage structures is highly desirable.
• 6-10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience (startup, fintech, Insurtech, or insurance brokerage experience a plus).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Proven ability to build processes from the ground up in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically.
