Our client, a growing real estate investment and management firm, is seeking a Controller to oversee the day‑to‑day accounting operations and lead a high‑performing finance team. This is a hands‑on leadership role reporting directly to the CFO and offers the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the firm’s continued growth.
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in real estate accounting, experience managing teams, and the ability to improve processes while maintaining accurate financial reporting across a diverse property portfolio.
Responsibilities- Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the corporate entity and property portfolio.
- Manage the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and oversight on day‑to‑day operations.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Partner with Asset Management, Acquisitions, and Property Management teams to support business initiatives and investment activity.
- Coordinate the annual audit and work closely with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Oversee cash management, budgeting support, and lender reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve the overall accounting function.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant real estate industry experience
- Prior Big 4 or public accounting experience preferred
Background in commercial real estate, multifamily, industrial, office, retail, or mixed‑use assets - Prior experience managing or mentoring an accounting team
- Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
- Experience with ERP systems such as Yardi, MRI, or similar accounting platforms is preferred
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments
