Controller, Accounting, Financial Reporting

A growing New York-based alternative asset management firm is seeking a Controller to join its finance team. Reporting directly to senior leadership, this individual will play a key role in overseeing management company accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and operational finance initiatives across a complex investment platform. • Oversee accounting and financial reporting for the management company and affiliated entities
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare and review U.S. GAAP financial statements and variance analyses
• Ensure accurate accounting for management fees, carried interest, GP entities, and intercompany transactions
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis
• Enhance accounting processes, controls, and workflows to improve efficiency and scalability
• Support complex capital activity, waterfalls, LP allocations, and investor reporting
• Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, and external service providers
• Oversee tax reporting processes, including K‑1s and corporate filings
• Support accounting system implementations and process improvement initiatives
• Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff while helping build out the finance function

• 8‑15+ years of management company and/or fund accounting experience within alternative asset management
• Prior exposure to hedge funds, private equity, or complex investment structures required
• Current or recent Controller / Head of Finance experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, partnership accounting, ASC 820 / ASC 946, and complex capital structures
• Hands‑on financial statement preparation experience required
• Experience managing NAV processes, valuations, and performance reporting
• Advanced Excel skills required; experience with Geneva or similar systems preferred
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to operate in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
