We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of our organization. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with financial reporting, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as needed.
- Prepare account analyses and financial reports for management.
- Assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual reconciliations of real estate tax payments billed to and collected from tenants, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
- Reconcile tenant tax escalation charges with actual property tax expenses and lease requirements.
- Assist with year-end closing procedures, including preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, and financial information required for tax return preparation.
- Coordinate with external accountants and tax professionals by providing requested financial reports, reconciliations, and supporting documents for annual tax filings.
- Assist in the preparation and review of year-end tax-related schedules, including income, expenses, fixed assets, depreciation, and other supporting information.
- Assist with external audits by providing requested documentation and schedules.
- Monitor fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
- Perform other accounting and finance duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., App Folio, Quick Books, Net Suite, SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics).
- Experience with real estate or property management accounting is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
