Posting on behalf of Gildea & Ivanis, a boutique CPA firm celebrating 30 years in business in the heart of New York City.
Take the Driver’s Seat in Your Accounting Career.
Gildea & Ivanis is looking for an experienced Staff Accountant who is ready to own client work, solve problems independently, and play a meaningful role in the continued growth of the firm.
This is an opportunity for someone who has built a strong accounting foundation and is ready for more autonomy, visibility, and influence. You will manage accounting work across a diverse portfolio of clients, including growing businesses, startups, and high-net-worth individuals, while working directly with firm leaders and business owners.
We are intentionally a smaller firm. You will not be several layers removed from the clients or limited to one narrow piece of the accounting process. You will have the trust and space to lead engagements, improve processes, communicate directly with clients, and see the full impact of your work.
This is a true accounting role for someone who wants to be in the driver’s seat, without losing access to experienced leaders who can help them continue growing.
What You’ll DoAs the Staff Accountant
, you will take ownership of day-to-day accounting across multiple client engagements and serve as a trusted point of contact for clients and internal team members.
- Owning monthly accounting processes for a portfolio of clients
- Preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger activity
- Managing monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Preparing accurate financial statements and client reporting packages
- Monitoring profit-and-loss activity and identifying trends, discrepancies, and potential issues
- Reviewing balance sheet accounts and resolving outstanding items
- Supporting accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash-flow reporting
- Leading cleanup and catch-up accounting engagements
- Improving client accounting processes, controls, and reporting practices
- Communicating directly with clients about financial reports, questions, deadlines, and outstanding items
- Supporting financial analysis, forecasting, and advisory projects
- Coordinating with firm leaders on complex client matters and special projects
- Helping review the work of more junior team members and providing practical guidance when needed
Because we are a CPA firm, there may be limited exposure to tax-season support and related documentation. However, this is a true accounting position, not a tax-preparation role.
What Makes This Role DifferentThis is not a position where you will spend your day completing isolated tasks and passing them up the chain.
You will have the opportunity to:- Own client relationships and accounting deliverables from beginning to end
- Work directly with business owners and firm leadership
- Develop a deeper understanding of how different businesses operate
- Identify problems and recommend solutions, rather than simply reporting the numbers
- Improve systems and processes across client engagements
- Help guide and develop earlier-career accountants
- Expand your exposure to advisory and fractional CFO work
- Build toward greater leadership responsibility within the firm
You will be trusted to exercise judgment, ask the right questions, and keep work moving without waiting for someone to outline every next step.
Who We’re Looking ForYou may be a strong fit if you:
- Have at least three years of professional accounting experience
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Have strong experience with journal entries, reconciliations, general ledger review, and month-end close
- Can prepare and analyze financial statements with limited oversight
- Are comfortable managing multiple client engagements and competing deadlines
- Know how to investigate discrepancies and bring potential solutions forward
- Communicate confidently and professionally with clients
- Take ownership of your work and follow issues through to resolution
- Can work independently while knowing when to elevate or ask for input
- Are comfortable reviewing work and helping less-experienced team…
