Position Overview
A leading institutional real estate investment platform is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its growing finance team. This highly visible role offers broad exposure across accounting, financial reporting, technical accounting, treasury, valuation, SEC reporting, and investment operations supporting both public and private real estate investment vehicles.
Key Responsibilities Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting- Research and apply U.S. GAAP to complex investment transactions.
- Analyze technical accounting matters including business combinations, lease accounting, consolidations, impairments, derivatives, and new accounting standards.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial reporting.
- Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement variance analysis.
- Oversee accounting and reporting for multiple real estate investment entities.
- Review work prepared by third-party fund administrators and joint venture partners.
- Support NAV reporting and valuation review processes.
- Assist with cash management, capital activity, acquisitions, and distributions.
- Support preparation and review of SEC filings including quarterly and annual reports.
- Maintain SOX-compliant internal controls.
- Assist with external audits and regulatory reporting.
- Monitor cash balances and funding activity.
- Coordinate capital calls, distributions, acquisitions, and intercompany funding.
- Partner with investment, legal, treasury, and operations teams on strategic initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Drive accounting process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Support implementation of scalable reporting and operational workflows.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm preferred).
- 5–9 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting.
- Experience with financial reporting and complex accounting transactions.
- Experience with in real estate, asset management, or capital-intensive industries preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
