Construction Project Accountant
Reports To: Controller
Position SummaryThe Construction Project Accountant supports the financial operations of construction projects from job setup through completion. This position is responsible for project accounting, billing, contract administration, reporting, and regulatory compliance while ensuring accurate financial records and timely project reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Set up construction projects, including Schedule of Values (SOV), Department of Labor (DOL) requirements, and job cost coding.
- Process purchase orders, accounts receivable invoices, deposits, progress billings, and ad hoc billings.
- Manage subcontracts, change orders, pay applications, and approved subcontractor payments.
- Prepare weekly accounts receivable aging reports and monitor outstanding balances.
- Prepare bonding documentation, contractor affidavits, and Builder s Risk reports.
- Maintain fuel log allocations and support project financial analysis.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures while maintaining accurate financial records.
- Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of three years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of construction job costing, project accounting, progress billing, and subcontract administration.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with construction accounting software is preferred.
