Senior Finance & Accounting Associate

Must be local to the NYC Area;
Hybrid 4 days onsite per week

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary New York-based finance resource supporting ownership and operating teams
• Work closely with the company's Controller to support financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
• Provide financial analysis, modeling, and decision-support information to ownership and senior leadership
• Participate in and assume responsibility over time for monthly, quarterly, annual financial close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
• Assist with general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and related accounting processes
• Monitor cash flow, banking activity, debt obligations, and treasury functions
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning initiatives
• Perform variance analysis and provide meaningful financial insights to management
• Build and maintain financial models and analytical tools to support operational/investment decision-making
• Analyze business performance, identify trends and opportunities, and develop actionable recommendations
• Support lender reporting, refinancing efforts, debt compliance requirements, and financing transactions
• Support annual audits while working closely with the Controller and external accountants
• Help strengthen accounting policies, reporting, processes, and internal controls as the business grows
• Assist ownership with acquisitions, asset management, special projects, and operational analyses
• Develop reporting tools that improve visibility into company performance
• Lead initiatives to improve financial reporting, technology, automation, and business processes

Qualifications

Required

• 3-6 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, financial analysis, or real estate finance
• Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and GAAP principles
• Exposure to month-end close and financial statement preparation
• Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, or analytical projects
• Outstanding analytical aptitude with strong financial modeling and problem-solving skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling and data analysis
• Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation abilities
• Ability to work independently while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Professional presence to interact with ownership, lenders, tenants, vendors, and outside professionals
• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to understand how the business operates—not just the accounting

Strongly Preferred

• Commercial real estate, property management, operating company, or family office accounting experience
• Experience working directly with Controllers, CFOs, finance leaders, or ownership teams
• Demonstrated leadership potential through project ownership, mentoring, or increasing responsibility
• CPA designation, MBA, or progress toward either credential
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, App Folio, Real Page, Sage, or similar accounting platforms
• Experience supporting lender reporting, refinancing transactions, debt compliance, or cash forecasting
• Experience building financial models, budgets, forecasts, dashboards, or operational reporting tools
• Experience analyzing investments, financing transactions, business operations, or real estate assets
• Experience working within entrepreneurial, privately owned, or family-owned organizations
