Our client is a well-established real estate owner/operator with a growing portfolio of commercial and residential properties throughout New York. They are looking to add a Property Accountant to their accounting team due to continued growth. Salary/Hourly Rate:$70,000 - $90,000
Position Overview:The Property Accountant will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of properties, including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and working closely with property management to ensure accurate financial records. The ideal Property Accountant is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
Responsibilities of the Property Accountant:- Manage the full accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of properties.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and complete month-end close.
- Record journal entries and perform bank and account reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.
- Review CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and lease-related accounting.
- Partner with property managers to resolve accounting issues and answer financial questions.
- Support year-end audits and other ad hoc accounting projects.
- 2-5 years of experience as a Property Accountant or in a similar real estate accounting role.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple properties and meet deadlines.
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, or another property management/accounting system.
- Experience supporting commercial and/or multifamily real estate portfolios.
- Previous experience as a Property Accountant in a fast-paced real estate environment is preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
