A growing full-service CPA and advisory firm is looking for an experienced Tax & Accounting Manager to join its Long Island team. The firm works with privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, individuals, and families across a variety of industries, providing tax, accounting, and business advisory services.
This is a hands-on management position for a CPA who wants to remain closely involved in technical work while taking ownership of client relationships and developing junior professionals.
You'll work directly with partners, manage engagements throughout the year, and have the opportunity to become a key resource within areas that match your technical and industry experience.
What You'll Handle
Your responsibilities will span tax compliance, planning, accounting, and client advisory work, including:
- Manage tax engagements from planning and preparation through review and final delivery.
- Review individual, partnership, corporate, fiduciary, and multi-state income tax returns.
- Develop year-round tax planning strategies based on clients' business and personal circumstances.
- Research federal, state, and local tax matters and communicate recommendations clearly to clients.
- Stay current on changes to tax legislation and identify how new developments may affect assigned clients.
- Review engagement work papers and resolve technical or accounting issues before final partner review.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, deadlines, and workflow across assigned engagements.
- Manage more complex accounting assignments in collaboration with other members of the accounting team.
- Maintain regular communication with partners regarding significant client matters or engagement developments.
- Look beyond compliance work to identify tax efficiencies, planning opportunities, and additional services that may benefit clients.
You'll have considerable interaction with both clients and staff. The firm is looking for someone who can confidently manage relationships while helping less experienced professionals develop.
You'll be expected to:
- Serve as a primary contact for assigned clients and build trusted, long-term relationships.
- Supervise Staff and Senior Accountants and review their work.
- Provide practical feedback, coaching, and technical guidance.
- Monitor progress across engagements and make sure deadlines are achieved.
- Work closely with partners on more complex client matters.
- Develop deeper expertise within assigned technical or industry areas.
- Contribute ideas that improve internal processes and engagement efficiency.
- Assist with practice and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Experience We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- Active CPA licence required.
- 7+ years of experience within a CPA/public accounting firm.
- Strong background in tax compliance, planning, preparation, and review.
- Experience with individual, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, and multi-state taxation.
- Previous experience supervising accounting professionals and managing engagements.
- Real estate tax experience is particularly desirable.
- Experience with CCH Axcess is preferred.
- Familiarity with Thomson Reuters Ultra Tax CS is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of Quick Books and Microsoft Office.
- Strong technical research and problem-solving capabilities.
Just as importantly, you should be comfortable taking ownership of your work. You'll need to be organised, responsive, and capable of moving several engagements forward at the same time without losing attention to detail.
The anticipated base salary is $145,000-$160,000 annually
, with final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and technical expertise.
