Salary Range: $110-130k (Based off experience)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with a construction contractor, general contractor, subcontractor, or similar project-based business.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting (AIA Billing)
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as Quick Books, Sage, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Experience with payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with management, project managers, vendors, customers, and outside accountants.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function.

CPA and bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred. Relevant construction-accounting experience may be considered in lieu of formal credentials.

About the Role

Our client is a growing small low voltage cabling company seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to take ownership of our accounting and financial operations. This is a hands-on position for someone who understands the unique accounting needs of the construction industry and can provide accurate financial information while helping company leadership make sound business decisions.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working in a small-business environment where they will have significant responsibility and autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Manage customer invoicing, progress billings, retainage, collections, and accounts receivable.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and payment documentation.
  • Prepare and monitor cash-flow forecasts and help management plan for upcoming financial obligations.
  • Coordinate payroll and ensure accurate allocation of labor costs to projects.
  • Prepare financial information for the company’s CPA and support year-end tax preparation.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and construction-industry requirements.
  • Provide management with timely financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, cash management, and overall financial performance.
