Senior Accountant - AI & Accounting Innovation

New York City - Union Square area

Work Arrangement:
Hybrid, three (3) days per week in the office

Base Salary: $120,000-$145,000, plus annual performance bonus

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on accountant or bookkeeper who has managed the books for multiple small-business clients and actively uses-or is genuinely passionate about using-AI to improve accounting workflows. Our client, a highly successful fintech company, is creating a one-of-a-kind position for an accounting professional who wants to help shape the future of AI-powered accounting. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of accounting, client service and innovation.

You will support the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping needs of small-business clients while working closely with senior executives, business leaders and engineering teams to identify processes that can be improved or automated using AI. You will not just maintain the books-you will help invent a smarter way to keep them.

• Manage day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping for a portfolio of U.S.
  
  -based small-business clients and accounting partners
• Perform bank and credit-card reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close and financial reporting
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, providing responsive, accurate and service-oriented support
• Use AI-powered tools to improve the speed, accuracy and quality of accounting workflows
• Test and evaluate new AI tools, identifying what works, what does not and where meaningful efficiencies can be created
• Partner with senior executives, business leaders and engineering teams to help develop AI-powered accounting capabilities
• Document workflows, lessons learned and best practices so successful processes can be repeated and scaled
• Help establish the tools, standards and playbooks that accounting professionals may use in the future

• Approximately four or more years of hands-on accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Experience supporting multiple small-business clients, ideally within an accounting firm, bookkeeping practice or client-services environment
• Strong knowledge of reconciliations, AP/AR, month-end close and financial reporting
• Understanding of U.S. accounting and bookkeeping practices
• Strong client communication and relationship-management skills
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI, automation and process improvement
• A proactive, curious mindset-you naturally look for faster, smarter and more effective ways to work
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where the playbook is still being created

• Professional experience using AI tools to improve accounting, bookkeeping or other business workflows
• Experience with Xero or another modern cloud-based accounting platform
• CPA or progress toward CPA certification
• Experience collaborating with product, technology or engineering teams
