We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Coordinator to join our payroll team in New York City. This role is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of multi-state payroll while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, thrives in a deadline-driven environment, and has strong knowledge of payroll systems and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for multi-state employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review payroll data, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
- Audit payroll registers and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
- Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries regarding earnings, taxes, deductions, and timekeeping.
- Partner with Human Resources and Finance to ensure payroll changes are accurately reflected.
- Process garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions.
- Reconcile payroll reports, benefit deductions, and general ledger payroll accounts.
- Assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll activities, including W-2 preparation and payroll tax reconciliations.
- Support payroll audits and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of payroll experience, including high-volume, multi-state payroll processing.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now, UKG Pro, Workday, Paycom, or similar platforms.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and a high level of professionalism when handling confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
- Experience with payroll tax filings and reconciliations.
- Experience supporting payroll for organizations with 500+ employees.
- Familiarity with timekeeping systems such as Kronos, UKG Dimensions, or Workday Time Tracking.
- Salary up to $95,000, based on experience.
