Location: Rockland County, NY
Reports To: Property Management Controller
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Property Accountant to join the in-house accounting team. This individual will play a key role in supporting property-level financial operations, contributing to the monthly close process, and ensuring accurate reporting for a large and growing portfolio of multifamily assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties
- Reconcile bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and intercompany balances
- Maintain and monitor financial records across a portfolio of multifamily properties
- Record and analyze property-level income and expenses, including rent rolls, operating expenses, and capital expenditures
- Assist with onboarding of new properties transitioning to in-house management
- Collaborate with property management, asset management, and other departments to ensure financial accuracy
- Help manage compliance with lender and investor reporting requirements
- Participate in the year-end audit and tax preparation processes
- Assist with cash management, including reviewing funding needs and distributions
- Work in Yardi to post journal entries, manage payables/receivables, and generate reports
- Support the Controller and Assistant Controller with ad hoc projects as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–7 years of property accounting experience, preferably in residential multifamily real estate
- Strong understanding of GAAP and property-level accounting practices
- Proficiency in Yardi is strongly preferred
- Experience working with complex entity structures (300+ entities a plus)
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
- Strong Excel skills and analytical capabilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
