Job Summary
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for staff level accounting duties including preparation and recording of journal entries, general ledger account analysis, bank reconciliations, disbursement processing, trust accounting, online banking, and other duties, as assigned.
Responsibilities- Prepare various balance sheet reconciliations to ensure completeness and accuracy of account balances
- Prepare monthly US and non-US bank reconciliations
- Process disbursement uploads, including non-US salary entries
- Perform escrow accounting tasks
- Perform monthly closing activities, including preparing and posting of general journal entries
- Process online banking transactions including, but not limited to, importing of employee expense reimbursement files, wires and ACH transfers
- Report daily cash receipts and cash balances on primary operating accounts
- Communicate with Accounting staff at other offices on inquiries and discrepancies
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 1 to 2 years of relevant work experience required
- Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of financial accounting systems
- Strong attention to detail
- Can organize, prioritize, plan and multi-task work activities, with the ability to effectively meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
- Strong understanding of basic accounting concepts, GAAP and financial analysis techniques
- Knowledge of 3E financial system preferred
- Experience in external/internal auditing or law firm preferred
- Bachelor’s degree Accounting required
NY Only:
The estimated base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
This role is non-exempt meaning it is overtime pay eligible. Simpson Thacher will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position.
