Key Responsibilities- Oversee and manage the Accounts Payable department, (team of three), including invoice processing, vendor relationships, payment approvals, and AP aging review.
- Manage the day-to-day flow of accounting transactions into the general ledger, including recording and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Coordinate with warehouse partners, licensors, vendors, and cross-functional teams to resolve billing, invoicing, and reporting discrepancies.
- Supervise, train, and develop staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team environment.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls, efficiency, and accuracy across AP and general accounting functions.
- Own the royalty reporting submission process across licensed brands, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with license agreement terms.
- Support audit requests (financial statement audits, 401(k)/ERISA audits, and licensor royalty audits) with organized, accurate documentation.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and related reports to support management decision-making.
- Work closely with the Senior Accounting Manager and CFO to support month-end and year-end close, including preparation of supporting schedules and variance analysis.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by the CFO.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
- 5–8 years of progressive accounting experience; a mix of private and public accounting experience is a plus.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accounts payable processes, and financial reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills required; experience with ERP/accounting systems preferred.
- Experience with royalty accounting or licensing-based revenue models is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, as well as work independently with minimal oversight.
- Smart, driven, and confident, with the ability to make decisions, elevate issues appropriately, and hold vendors and business partners accountable.
- Experience using AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot) to improve efficiency, automate workflows, and support financial analysis is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
