Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting
A premier luxury retailer based in New York City is seeking a highly motivated Accounting Manager with strong retail and inventory accounting experience to join its growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional possesses a deep understanding of inventory accounting, revenue recognition, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
Position SummaryThe Accounting Manager will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the company's financial records and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This individual will oversee revenue accounting activities, manage all aspects of inventory accounting, supervise accounting staff, support the month-end close process, and assist with various general accounting functions. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with leadership and process improvement skills.
Key Responsibilities- Review and oversee revenue accounting activities to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
- Manage all aspects of inventory accounting, including:
- Inventory valuation , Establishing and maintaining inventory reserves, monitoring inventory obsolescence, reconciling physical inventory counts to the general ledger and accounting records
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Analyze inventory and revenue-related variances and provide recommendations to management.
- Assist with financial statement preparation and external audit support.
- Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with operations, merchandising, and retail teams regarding inventory and financial reporting matters.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA preferred not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the retail, luxury retail, or consumer products industry.
- Significant experience with inventory accounting and inventory controls.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
- Experience with account reconciliations, month-end close, and general ledger accounting.
