Senior Multifamily Property Accountant | Hybrid NYC
Position OverviewThe Senior Multifamily Property Accountant will support the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of residential properties. Reporting to the Multifamily Accounting Manager, this individual will be responsible for full-cycle property accounting, including month‑end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, lender reporting, and audit support.
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced property accountant looking to take on greater ownership of a portfolio and work closely with property management and other internal teams.
Responsibilities- Manage full-cycle accounting and month‑end close for assigned multifamily properties.
- Reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, and other sub‑ledgers.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, reserves, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare monthly property‑level financial statements and reporting packages.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and account roll‑forwards.
- Review property expenses and ensure proper accounting treatment and G/L coding.
- Partner with property management teams on operating expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and other accounting matters.
- Review expenditures to determine appropriate expense versus capitalization treatment.
- Monitor property cash balances and funding requirements.
- Record mortgage activity and reconcile related lender and escrow accounts.
- Prepare lender reporting packages and assist with draw requests.
- Support annual budgeting and budget‑to‑actual analysis.
- Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.
- Provide documentation and support for property‑level audits.
- Assist with regulatory and governmental filings as required.
- Participate in process improvements, special projects, and other ad hoc accounting initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience.
- Multifamily/residential property accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with month‑end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and property‑level accounting.
- Experience with Yardi or another real estate accounting system is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
