Salary: $125,000 - $140,000 per year
Location: 1000 Gates Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11221.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, on-site, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
The Senior Accountant is part of a team responsible for the key accounting functions and reporting of a multi-entity organization with approximately 15 active companies
. This position oversees the accounting for payroll, billing, insurance and other functions while ensuring strong internal controls and compliance with accounting standards. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage complex financial data and works closely with the Controller, accounting team, and senior management.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations and financial statements.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
- Analyze financial data and trends to support strategic decision making.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Assist with variance analysis.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation.
- Support internal controls and recommend process improvements.
- Oversee weekly payroll accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate recording of payroll transactions.
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, including wages, taxes, benefits, PTO, bonuses, and deductions.
- Prepare and record payroll journal entries and monthly accruals.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Analyze monthly payroll results versus key indicators to identify trends and anomalies.
- Initiate 401K transfers and manage information for regulatory reporting and audits.
- Prepare and reconcile revenue-related journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Reconcile Accounts Receivable to external reports on a monthly basis.
- Analyze outstanding receivables to determine reserves and adjustments needed in the General Ledger.
- Collaborate with operational teams to improve revenue tracking and reporting processes.
- Review discrepancies between the billing, time tracking and general ledger systems.
- Ensure compliance with General Accepted Accounting Policies.
- Oversee intercompany activity to ensure balanced reporting across entities.
- Assist in completion of monthly financial preparation and review.
- Manage tax payments as required for each entity.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Assist with annual financial and other audits and provide requested supporting documentation.
- Submit surveys and required reports for compliance with regulations.
- Work with consultant on cost report data.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
- Maintain internal controls and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Support special projects, system implementations, and process automation initiatives.
- Experience in home care industry.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
- CPA designation or CPA candidate preferred.
- 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
