Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for an Assistant Director of Accounting on behalf of our client, a mission‑driven nonprofit organization in New York City. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys owning key accounting functions while helping strengthen processes and systems. This is a full‑time, temp‑to‑hire opportunity offering a hybrid schedule of 2 days onsite and 3 days remote in Lower Manhattan.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
Lead monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, adjustments, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Maintain general ledger accuracy and support the preparation of month‑end financial statements. Manage accounting for revenue, invoicing, cash receipts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll‑related activity, and organizational expenses. Manage accounting and expense allocations across multi‑year grants and maintain appropriate supporting documentation. Oversee partner invoicing and earned‑income activity, ensuring revenue is accurately recorded and received.
Serve as a key user/administrator for Sage Intacct and Concur , helping improve accounting workflows and system utilization. Reconcile development and revenue information between Salesforce and the general ledger. Partner with the Controller on the annual financial audit and Form 990 process, including schedules, documentation, and auditor requests. Identify opportunities to streamline manual processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve accounting efficiencies.
Collaborate closely with finance, development, regional teams, and external auditors.
Approximately 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience. Strong hands‑on full‑cycle accounting experience. Demonstrated ownership of month‑end and year‑end close. Experience with journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, general ledger accounting, AR, revenue, and expense accounting. Sage Intacct experience strongly preferred and highly important for this role. Grant and/or nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred. Experience supporting annual audits;
Form 990 experience is highly valuable. Concur and Salesforce experience preferred. CPA is a plus but not required.
This temp‑to‑hire opportunity offers approximately $48/hour during the temporary period , with an anticipated permanent salary of approximately $98,000–$100,000 annually . The schedule is Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with 2 days onsite and 3 days remote at the organization’s Lower Manhattan office.
